About TaxLoonie

TaxLoonie is a set of free calculators for Canadians who want a clear, accurate answer to everyday tax questions: what you’ll take home, what moving provinces would change, what to expect on your first return, and what to set aside from side income.

The site is built and maintained by the TaxLoonie team. We are not affiliated with the Canada Revenue Agency, Revenu Québec, any provincial government or the Royal Canadian Mint.

The name comes from the loonie, Canada’s one-dollar coin: the site is about where each of your dollars goes.

What we do differently

  • Sourced rates. Every rate and amount comes from CRA, Revenu Québec or provincial budget documents, and the date we last checked them is shown on every page.
  • Tested math. 57 automated tests compare our results with published tables, CRA maximums and worked examples before every update.
  • Clear limits. Each calculator says what it includes and what it leaves out.
  • Private by design. Calculations run in your browser. We don’t ask for your name, SIN or account details.

Keeping it current

We update rates when the CRA publishes new indexed amounts each November, when payroll formulas change in January and July, after provincial budgets, and when benefit amounts reset each July.
